    Insured safekeeping during the race

Insured safekeeping is located next to the finish zone on the Kruisvest, opposite the Carmers street. Here you can safely leave your personal belongings during the race as of 14h30.

    Important guidelines:

At insured custody, your belongings will be stored in a structured manner to prevent loss or damage.

Here are the steps to follow:

    • Using a numbered bag: You will receive a special bag in which you should place all your belongings. You should label this bag with a number so that it can be easily found.
    • Properly sealing the bag: Make sure that the bag is tied properly before you hand it over. This prevents items from getting wet or lost.
    • Drop off at custody: You drop off the closed bag at the insured custody. The volunteers will rank your bag by number.
    • Restricted access during the race: The intention is to drop off only items you really don’t need during the race. This eliminates the need for the volunteers to continually look for bags and put them back.
    • Collecting after the race: After the race you can collect your numbered bag again. This is done in the same area where you dropped it off. The bags will only be given to the athletes who show their wristband with number.
    • Shower opportunity after pick up: Right next to the insured custody there is a shower area you can use.

    Check-in Transition Area

The transition area opens at 14h30 and closes at 16h45 sharp. You cannot enter the race if you show up after 16h45. By 16h50 all athletes should have either left the transistion area or taken place in the relay zone.

Check-in via Potterierei (next to Snaggaardbrug)

    14h30 - 16h45

    Helmed and bike check

Bike needs to comply with non-drafting race: only race bikes and time trial bikes (in good condition) allowed. In the transition area your bike needs to be stored on the frame marked with your start number.

Prior to entering the transition area, please fix the orange Tyvek wristband to your wrist and bike. Only the cycle athlete with orange wristband can do the bike check in, no one else.

Swimmer and runner don’t get access to the transition area, only to the relay zone.

Biker and runner can’t leave bags in the transition area, they have to deposit their street wear bag at the Athlete bag drop-off: Kruisvest (next to the finish) near De Verloren Hoek.

The swimmer gives the chip to the biker, who can then run to his bike in the transition area. The swimmer should leave the relay zone as fast as possible after the exchange. The cyclist can start the bike course.

Music (ipod) is forbidden during the race!

    Cycling

    One lap of 45km

    DRAFTING and BLOCKING are prohibited!!!

    • Be disciplined: sometimes the bike course goes over narrow roads, don’t draft!
    • Drafting zone: keep distance from other athletes 3m sideways and 10m in front or back
    • Blocking: cycling next to another athlete is also prohibited. Overtaking should be done within 30 seconds.

    Penalties for drafting and blocking:

    • Yellow card: For each card you will spend 2 minutes in the penalty box. If you receive 3 yellow cards you will be disqualified
    • Red card: Means disqualified. For drafting or other serious faults.

    Penalty box

At the exit of the transition area, before the run part (E. Zorghestraat), you’ll find the penalty box.

Athletes who received one or more yellow cards need to register at the penalty box. Skipping the penalty box means disqualification.

    Swap 2 : Bike - Run

After cycling: All athletes enter the transition area via the Potterierei. At the entrance of the transition area, get of the bike and run to your numbered place, store your bike on the frame carrying your number.

While running in the transition area keep your helmet on you can remove your helmet when your bike is on the frame.

Next the cyclist runs to the relay area and hands over the chip to his runner. The runner runs to the exit of the transition area in the E. Zorghestraat and starts the run course.

The biker leaves the transition area as fast as possible (bike check-out).

If the cyclist has obtained a yellow card (see explanation about blocking & drafting below) he needs to tell his runner. It’s the runner which needs to sit out the penalty in the penalty box.

The runner has to make sure he’s on time in the relay zone, when this should be he has to make out for himself.
Warming up can be done on Snaggaardstraat (not beyond the crossing of Potterierei and Ropeerdstraat).

    Running

The run course starts at the E. Zorghestraat, take right when you leave the transition area. Next you go left in order to start the run course.

The are 2 aid stations on the run course where you have water or sports drinks.

Finish: race number in front please

    Finish

Teams run over the finish together. The swimmer and biker can wait for their runner in the Stijn Streuvelsstraat just past house number 54.

Only by running over the finish line together each team member will be able to receive his medal and surprise.

    Time Limits

Swim: 35 minutes. From 19h05 all cyclists have to be on their way. If the swimmer is too late, the cyclist can already start but will receive a time penalty of 10 minutes. The swimmer hands over the timing chip to his runner instead of his biker.

If the swimmer is unable to complete the swim course, then the cyclist of the team can still start once the last swimmer has completed the swim course. The team will be disqualified, but biker and runner can still complete their course and experience the race.

Cycling and running: The time limit to finish is 22h. If your still in the race at that time and you have crossed the Kruispoort, you can still complete the run course at your own risk. Athletes who didn’t cross the Kruispoort yet have to leave the race.
